I think its time to start tabulating the touristy places to visit around Raetihi. Starting with....
Meads Wall (exact location) - a filming location for The Lord of the Rings trilogy and features in the battle of the Second Age when the Ring is cut from Sauron's finger.
From Meads Wall (topo map location)you can look across at Mt Doom....Mt Ngauruhoe located at the following co-ordinates: S 39° 09.700 E 175° 37.500Drive up the Mangatepopo Road to get as close as possible to Mt Doom or view it from the top of the Bruce Road (SH.48) on Mt Ruapehu at Meads Wall S 39 14.190 E 175 33.650 at the spot where filming actually took place [source].
